Seattle Pacific University Shooting Leaves One Dead

One person, a 19 year old student, has died in a shooting at Seattle Pacific University (SPU), a spokeswoman for Harborview Medical Center says. Seattle Pacific is a private Christian University.

SPU shooting victim was identified as Paul Lee, 19.

A gunman opened fire, also wounding three other people before a hall monitor staff member disarmed him, the Seattle Police Department said.

Science and engineering classes are held in Otto Miller Hall, where the shooting took place.

The gunman was reloading when the staff stopped him with pepper spray, police reported on the department's official Twitter account.

The accused shooter is in custody, and no outstanding suspects are being sought.

The gunman suspected of killing one and wounding several others during the afternoon rampage on the campus of Seattle Pacific University was booked into King County jail Thursday night, the Seattle Police Department said in a late Twitter feed, identifying the man as 26-year-old Aaron R. Ybarra. Ybarra reportedly is not currently a student at Seattle Pacific University.

Aaron, a name with Hebrew origins, means "mountaintop" or "exalted."

Ybarra is Basque, and the name comes from the Basque "ibar," meaning meadow. But alternative meanings are "summit" (as in "mountaintop") and "bar" as in a city's gate.

He lives in Mountlake Terrace, Washington.

Yes, lots of references to mounts, mountains, and summits in this name game.
